About the position

The Commodities Lab Associate is responsible for managing all green coffee and tea samples from the point of receipt in the lab through to the point of reporting sample results to suppliers.

The primary responsibilities of this position are data entry, sample preparation and evaluation, and laboratory organization. This position reports directly to the Director of Commodities Quality.

 Responsibilities:

• Manage samples received from internal and external warehouses; receive, log, prepare and evaluate green coffee and tea samples
• Manage sample retention program for green coffee and tea samples
• Perform quality evaluations: weigh out, perform measurements, roast and taste evaluate green coffee and tea samples
• Perform data entry for all samples and associated testing results into the database
• Prepare and breakdown tasting sessions
• Clean, maintain and operate small coffee roaster used in Commodities Quality department
• Clean, maintain and operate laboratory equipment used in evaluation of green coffee and tea samples
• Participate in taste evaluations for coffee and tea
• Identify and communicate quality observations to Commodities Quality Coordinator
• Cross-train on, and periodically performs responsibilities of both the Commodities QA Sampler and Commodities Quality Coordinator
• Provide support on projects, trainings and to other members of the Commodities Department and other departments as needed
• Maintains organization and cleanliness of the Commodities Quality laboratories areas

Other:

• Participate in supplier and customer visits
• Follow all policies and procedures, and observed all safety requirements
• Perform other duties as required
